The Sivas Massacre

On July, 1993 one of the greatest massacres in Turkey's recent history occurred in Sivas. During Alevi celebrations, a group of intellectuals and artists who stay at Madimak Hotel was surrounded by 15000 religious fanatics. The main target of the crowd was Aziz Nesin (a famous and prolific author, an atheist and Turkish translator of The Satanic Verses). The Islamic radicals set fire to the hotel and 37 people died burning or suffocating. This documentary tells minute by minute how tension escalated right before the massacre and these horrific events occurred after that.
